During the Holiday Season of 2017 NWTRA members Richard Galloway, Buck, Lynette, and Saleen Mcentire and Gary Humphreys, constructed and distributed Toys for Christmas in the Pendleton area.

Richard had started making toys when he was in Kalispell Mt as part of the Toys for Tots program.  Learning from a long time craftsman of the area, Bob Redinger, Richard and about 6 to 8 guys developed jigs and designs for a number of different toys.

Now in Pendleton (Galloway Artisans) Richard and Buck discussed building toys for the area kids.  NWTRA outreached to local businesses for supplies and the community responded.  They started by asking Kelly Lumber Supply, Boise Cascade, Tum-A-Lum Lumber and Zimmerman’s Hardware Store.  Buck Mcentire started picking up supplies and Richard Galloway started the production.  Over a series of weekends, starting before Thanksgiving, NWTRA members contributed over 100 hours to construct and assemble the toys.  Altogether there were 15 block wagons, 14 doll beds, and about 140 cars.

Now to get them were they were needed.  Future Farmers of America (FFA) of Pendleton High School and NWTRA member Saleen Mcentire started contacting area schools asking, “if they had kids in need?”.  Area schools, Washington Elementary, Sherwood Elementary, Pendleton Early Learning Center and Pilot Rock Pantry all responded.  The Mcentire family distributed the toys to all the requesting schools and they were very excited and thankful!  Everyone from NWTRA was very happy with the results and we plan on getting a head start on these toys for next year so, we can help more kids.

Thanks to:

Kelly Lumber Supply: Donated the dowels and the wood glue

Boise Cascade Pilot Rock: ~1/2 Unit of Lumber

Tum-A-Lum Lumber: Screws, dowels and some 1x10x8 for the cradle ends

Zimmerman’s Hardware: Paint and Clear-coat
